QRC  - Queer Resource Center at Butte College

Providing a safe, inclusive environment for LGBTQIA2S+ students

Founded in 2018 by student Skylar Darrow, the mission of the QRC is to provide a safe, inclusive environment for LGBTQIA2S+ students. The space allows students to meet others in the community and gain support while at Butte College. Stop by!  In the swing space portables by ARTS -  SSG 101, main campus.

The QRC was the eighth center out of the 114 California Community Colleges to open.

 

GSA Student Club

• The Gender and Sexuality Alliance is an inclusive club here to support students!  We host outings to socialize, build connections and Zoom meet-ups to discuss queer events, literature, and issues.

Chosen Name Project

Butte College supports LGBTQIA2S+ student identity by offering the ability to change your first name.

From your Butte College Student Email, please send a pdf of the completed and signed Chosen Name Change Form and a picture of your government-issued photo ID to admissions@volamdolong.com.

When filling out the Chosen Name Change Form, you only need to complete the following:

• Butte Student ID
• Legal Name
• Date of Birth
• Chosen First Name
• Signature and Date

Government Issued Photo ID includes: 

• Student ID Card
• State Issued Driver's License, Identification Card, or Real ID
• High School or K-12 Transcript with Photo
• Military ID
• Passport

Chosen First Name (displaying with Legal Last Name) currently appears in the following areas and systems within 1-2 business days after submission:

• Instructor Printed Rosters
• Instructor Online Rosters
• Canvas Courses
• Campus Email Display Name (legal first initial and legal last name remain as email address and login)
• Student ID System (Butte College ID Cards Included)
• Counseling Appointment System (SARS)
• Pyramed Student Health System
• Chosen First Name does NOT currently appear in:  CAS Appointment System or most Campus Reports

• Support and promote the QRC and their events.
• Allowing students, faculty, and staff to select and use a chosen name.
• Offering faculty and staff training, including Safe Zone and Queer Affirming Materials workshops.
• Works with the IDEA officer to create a process for individuals to bring forward issues and recommendations.
• Increase student participation and queer faculty and staff involvement in creating safe, affirming, and intersectional campus spaces.
