AAUW Career Trek Planned for February 25

Local branches of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) are hosting "Career Trek" a one day event aimed at introducing eighth grade girls to career options in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The event takes place on Saturday, February 25 at Butte College, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, in the Learning Resource Center Building, 2nd Floor, at the Center for Academic Success.

The event is held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day includes morning presentations along with college resources such as financial aid, and scholarship information.

In the afternoon, Butte College biology, chemistry, and computer science instructors will offer a variety of afternoon lab demonstrations. There is a small registration fee of $5 per person to attend, which includes breakfast and lunch. The event is open to all 8th grade girls and parents but advanced registration is requested. Parents are encouraged to attend the day's event with their daughters.

Organizer Jana Lawton noted there will be 15 career sessions presented featuring women in a wide variety of careers. For information, contact Jana Lawton at (530) 894-1843
